What Is FAI?

First Article Inspection (FAI) is a formal, documented process used to confirm that the initial production item complies with all engineering drawings, customer requirements, and industry standards (such as AS9102). FAI covers:

• Dimensional checks of critical features

• Material verification (certificates, hardness, coatings)

• Process validation (machine settings, tooling, fixtures)

• Special feature inspection (surface finishes, threads, threads per inch)

• Complete documentation of results for traceability
